How To Look And Feel Your Best On A First Date

Are you feeling anxious before a first date? Though it’s totally understandable to get  a bit nervous, there are things you can do to mitigate the stress and be fully prepared. Check out these practical tips on how you can stand out and present your best self on that special first date.

Choose A Place That Makes You Feel Comfortable

You may feel pressured to show your romantic prospect an experimental new restaurant or take them on some wild adventure. However, you should keep in mind that how you feel can influence someone else’s mindset. When you’re at ease, the date will go smoothly. Pick a spot that’s both fun and in your comfort zone. There are plenty of options! You can go on a scenic hike or take them to an art exhibit opening. Choose a place where it will be easy to have a conversation and get to know one another better.

Pick Interesting But Neutral Conversation Topics

There’s no reason why you have to rush on your first date. Yes, you should put some effort into having an interesting, dynamic conversation. But if you jump a few necessary steps and delve into contentious topics, your date can easily go off the rails. Do you have trouble coming up with things to talk about? Before your date, make a list of things you would like to learn about your romantic prospect. Here are a few examples:

    • What kind of movies do they like?
    • Do you guys have the same passions?
    • What art do they like?
    • What’s their favorite kind of food?

Avoid uncomfortable topics such as previous relationships or their views on religion and politics. Pace yourself — hopefully, you will have future dates to discuss all of that! Also, remember to ask a lot of questions and show that you’re interested in what they have to say.

    Get New Clothes

A great way to get pumped before a first date is to get a new wardrobe. By wearing an outfit that’s fresh and stylish, you can approach the date with a renewed sense of confidence. Choose clothes that make you look and feel your best.

    Get A Good Night’s Sleep

No one wants to go on a date with someone who seems really tired and out of it. To give the date your all, you need to be fully rested. The night before the special meet-up, make sure to get plenty of sleep so you can be attentive and present. If you’re having trouble sleeping, you can cut back on caffeine or do a workout.

    Personal Hygiene Is Key

It’s important that you take care of your personal hygiene before going on a date. In addition to  taking a shower, brushing your teeth, and flossing, think about how you can clean up for this special day. Have you been putting off getting a haircut for a while? It’s time to book that appointment with your barber. You should do what feels right for you. Men’s skincare routine varies between person to person. So, you have to do your own research and decide what’s right for you.

If you have facial hair, this may be time to shave. Before your date, buy a straight razor and shaving brush and then get to work. However, you don’t have to get rid of your beard if you don’t have to. You can also use this as an opportunity to get your facial hair some more shape and texture by getting some beard balm or beard oil.

    Be A Gentleman

Although a lot of people are meeting up through dating apps these days, chivalry isn’t dead. On your date, be an old school gentleman. Open doors, sustain eye contact, and always say please and thank you. At the end of the date, make sure they get home safely and text them a follow up if you had a good time. These small things can go a long way when it comes to leaving a good first impression.

Don’t get too stressed about your first date. As long as you stay on top of your personal hygiene and act like yourself, you will have a nice time. Relax and be spontaneous! You never know who could be your special someone.
